Built for demanding heavy-haul operations, the CASTROMAX® CST-MXW 4 LOWBED combines a 72,000 kg payload capacity, four 12-tonne axles, hydraulic platform widening and a durable fixed-platform configuration designed for intensive everyday transport.

The first axle is equipped with an axle-lift system, the second and third axles are fixed, and the fourth axle is self-steering, providing an effective balance between manoeuvrability, tyre life, operational simplicity and maintenance cost.

Unlike fully hydraulically steered or telescopically extendable configurations, this version is engineered for operators who require serious payload capacity and practical manoeuvrability without unnecessary hydraulic steering or extension systems.

AXLE CONFIGURATION AND MANOEUVRABILITY

The running gear has been configured for heavy-duty operation while keeping the system mechanically straightforward and easy to maintain.

The first axle is lifting, helping reduce unnecessary tyre wear and rolling resistance when operating under suitable load conditions.

The second and third axles are fixed for maximum stability under heavy loads.

The fourth axle is self-steering, improving manoeuvrability during cornering and reducing tyre scrub compared with a completely fixed four-axle arrangement.

This configuration eliminates the additional hydraulic steering system, steering cylinders, electronic steering controls, encoders and steering PLC architecture required by fully hydraulically steered trailers.

The result is a robust heavy-haul platform designed for operators who prioritize payload capacity, durability, straightforward maintenance and lower system complexity.

HYDRAULIC PLATFORM WIDTH EXTENSION

The loading platform can be hydraulically widened by 300 mm on each side, increasing the total platform width from 2,550 mm to 3,150 mm.

The widening system uses hydraulic cylinders and synchronized flow-control equipment to provide controlled and balanced movement on both sides of the platform.

This allows the trailer to accommodate wider construction machinery, tracked equipment and oversized loads without requiring a permanently wider chassis.

REAR HYDRAULIC LOADING RAMPS

The trailer is designed for rear loading through hydraulic double-folding ramps.

The ramps can hydraulically widen and narrow by 200 mm, providing additional flexibility for machinery with different track widths.

The ramp surfaces incorporate steel and timber sections designed to provide a practical loading surface for construction and heavy machinery.

CHASSIS AND MATERIALS

The chassis is manufactured using certified high-strength structural steels:

The combination of high-strength structural steels allows CASTROMAX® engineers to optimize chassis strength, load distribution and structural durability for demanding heavy-transport applications.

Running-gear components are designed to remain largely removable and replaceable, simplifying servicing, component replacement, colour customization and spare-parts supply throughout the trailer’s service life.
